Geography
Narath Grama Panchayat is situated in the Kallyassery Block of Kannur Taluk within Kannur District, covering an area of 17.24 square kilometers across the villages of Narath and Kannadiparamba. The Panchayat is bounded by the Taliparamba Municipality and Kolacherry Panchayat to the north; Kolacherry, Munderi, and Kannur corporation to the east; Kannur corporation to the south; and Pappinisseri and Chirakkal to the west. Historically, the region was under the Mushika Dynasty and later became part of the old Chirakkal Taluk during the British era. Since the early 20th century, the village has been active in the national movement and social reforms, notably hosting the historic "Way-Walking" (Vazhinadakkal) protest by the Scheduled Caste community at Shaliya Street in Kannadiparamba.
Geographically, the terrain slopes from the northeast to the southwest, featuring a mix of plateau plains, hills, paddy fields, and vast coastal plains. The Valapattanam River to the north, west, and east, along with the Kattampally River to the south, effectively turns the Panchayat into a peninsula. Key landmarks include the Kannadiparamba Temple and its surrounding groves on the Kannadiparamba plateau, as well as the Maidanipalli and sacred groves on the Kambill plateau. Located within the Northern Midland agro-climatic zone, the area's primary agriculture consists of paddy, coconut, areca nut, pulses, black pepper, cashew, mango, banana, and various vegetables.
